A break away from busy Koh Tau, great staff”
We arrived on Koh Tao at Sairee beach and stayed their for 5 days, after the hustle of another Phi Phi type island, we wanted for more relaxation before we visited Koh Phangang. Ao Muong is the perfect place for that. It was a bit difficult to get there, we contemplated hiring a quad-bike in Sairee for the three days we would stay at Ao Muong, and try to drive there through the jungle - bad idea. We never knew that the resort has a daily collection and drop-off from the main pier in the morning and afternoon so ignorantly caught a longtail for the 20 minute ride around to the north side of the island. On our way there the longtail driver spotted Ao Muang's boat and we hopped across. The jetty on arrival is a bit dubious in choppy water but that's where the difficulty ended and the relaxation started. Set high on the hillside the bungalows look onto mango bay. The staff are fantastic, despite their broken english (and our non-existent Thai) we communicated well with many a laugh and smile. They are some of the most friendly Thai's I have met in my three trips around Thailand. The food was good, I would recommend their Tom Yum Goong, truly one of the best i've had. The snorkeling is fantastic. Rooms are well equipped, however they don't have electricity between 6am and 6pm so get a warm shower after your evening snorkel if you can. Although, let's be honest it's Thailand a refreshing cold shower is actually needed after a hot day. My only qualm is the price of their beers, while their food is very reasonably priced their beers can go up to 90 baht for a small Chang and more for more premium beers. This is apposed to the 60-70 baht from the same thing on Sairee beach. If you are looking for those two or three days of quiet, island and jungle beauty this is the place. If you are traveling further north of Thailand and are looking for a similar experience try mountain beach resort on Koh Lipe, we loved that the year before.

speactacular location, quiet”
Very beautiful location. It's remote from the rest of the island, but if you are going to Koh Tao, it's really nice to stay at this hotel for a couple days. The snorkelling in Mango Bay is quite good, especially if you head to the right (east) along the island, you can go for hours and it's some of the best snorkelling I found on the island, and I was always totally alone. The hotel runs a shuttle boat twice a day from the hotel to Sairee and back, no charge. Also, you can indeed walk from Mango Bay to Sairee and other beaches if you are in good shape, and it's a really pretty hike that takes you to other remote beaches. They also have a kayak you can borrow and scout around. Staff is really sweet, Burmese mostly. The tour boats all stop in Mango Bay for a couple hours mid day, but the rest of the time you have the place to yourself.

Nice resort overlooking the great mango bay”
a nice, simple resort located at the north of the koh tao, overlooking mango bay. staff arranged a pickup at the main town and they have their own boat running between the main town and their resort twice a day so you can catch the ferry back. overall, staff was very friendly. snorkelling equipment was handed over for free. simple breakfast with only two choices included. internet available at night time at the main complex. rooms simple, but clean and well maintained. electricty runs only from 6pm until 6am. three little drawbacks: mango bay receives too many visitors. during daytime, dozens of boats queue up at the bay. because of that, many corals are damaged. and during our stay in july 2011, nearby a new resort was under construction. the noise from that was a minor annoyance for me, looking for a quiet beach resort.

Great.”
This hotel is fantastic. The staff are friendly and though you can only reach it by boat (which is supplied by the hotel) it was pretty near perfect. The staff were friendly, the rooms were nice the view was spectacular. The beach is right out the front of the hotel and though it can be busy during the day, as people from other hotels are brought to this beach for its snorkling, by 4 P.M. there is no one there and you have the bay to yourself. You are dropped off at Koh Tao's main port and the hotel provides a ferry (twice a day) that will take you to and from the resort - and it's free which is excellent as the longboats are extortionate. Only a couple of things you need to be aware of: (1) There are a lot of stairs so you must be able to walk and you must not mind a bit of a trek (2) The power (and therefore A/C etc) is shut off from the times of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Great location”
very friendly owner and staff. Spent one night there...only wish to stay more than one ...food is good and price reasonable. Most importantly, you own your own little sandy beach and get to swim leisurely between the highly acclaimed Mango bay coral. Beautiful coral just a little stretch off the shore. Although many may say it's inconvenient to reach the resort but it's the place where you feel you OWN the place. Did Enjoy the tranquility and the great people and service there.

great”
I have great time to stay in this hotel since it's very convenient for diving. after all the customer gone, just like you own the whole beach. but the location is not very convenient and the food price is a little bit high but we can understand it since they need to buy food from the far away and transfer by themselves every day to keep food fresh. meanwhile, the manager gave me help a lot, and I am very appreicated it. It's a wonderful place for relaxe. I will be back if I go to Koh Tao again.

Hotel with secluded atmosphere”
I had done my homework before booking this hotel (junior seaview room), so everything is more or less same as I expected, upside is the view of this hotel is spectacular , and they provide free shuttle boat to koh nanyuan and koh tao pier, it's especially good for people who wanna take one day tour to koh nanyuan themselves, and staff of this hotel is polite and helpful , downside is the room is not so clean and very simple, you are supposed to take some waters yourself for drinking ,as they do not provide bottle water for free and you can not drink water from tap. And the room only have power from 6:00am to 6:00pm, food their is ok , reasonable prices if you consider their trouble to ship water and food from main pier in koh tao So, it's a hotel for people love snorkelings and secluded atmospheres , but if you have comparatively high standard for clean rooms ,ignore this one

Beautiful but basic”
Since the resort is on the far north side of Koh Tao, we took a taxiboat (1300baht) to get there, once arrived the host mentioned the resort has a pick up service. It's a pity we were not informed about this in advance. The resort is situated on the beautiful Mango Bay and shares this view with only one other resort. During the day heaps of boats from Siaree Beach come to visit, but in the morning and at sunset it feels way more secluded. The room we rented was nice but basic. It looks good but a lot of mosquito's shared our interest. A big downside to the resort is that they shut off electricity from 6AM to 6PM. This means no air-conditioning during daytime nor sleeping any longer then 7:30AM because of the heat. Charging any electronic devise becomes a serious planning challenge. The air-con wasn’t functioning well anyway so our stay was a bit dominated by heat. The food in the restaurant is reasonable but slightly overpriced for touristic Thai standards. The service is, as everywhere else we experienced in Thailand, dramatic. Food is delivered to the corner of the table closest to the kitchen and getting the attention of a waitress requires SOS-flares. This with exception of the host who was very kind and attentive and also speaks good English. The restaurant does offer free WiFi but the included free breakfast is horrible. Over all I think this place is nice to stay for a few days if you want to escape from the Siaree masses but could make much more of it’s location with a few improvements. We stayed two nights which was plenty enough seclusion for us.

Awesome place to stay, hard to get there at night”
Taxi driver almost refused to drive there up in the north at night. Getting there including a 200 meters walking trip downwards with 30 kilos of luggage no fun. Try to arrive on ko tao in the morning or noon, there will be a boat transport directly to the resort. Apart from that the hotel, staff and food was just great - maybe more for couples and honeymooners instead of two backpackers.

Great location and staff!”
My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 nights and everything was just perfect (except the food, haha). The location is fabulous and the staff is sooooo friendly! We really enjoyed our stay. The only way you can get to the resort is by a taxi-boat, so no-one that isn't staying there comes. In from of the resort is the bay and you can perfectly snorkel there. Beautiful coral and fish! Good place, would like to go back some day. However, bring some food from town (especially fruit and nuts). The food in the resort is eatable, but definitely not spectacular.

Nice secluded hotel!”
Ao Moung is a place that is perfect for a quietness and beach access! Staff is very nice and helpful. Boat transfer is a very good option which is (almost) only option to get to and from the hotel.

Great location at Mango Bay”
it was our first time staying at this hotel we chose there was because we wanted to go to mango bay. no electricity from 6am-6pm, no cellphone signal and no land phone to use, hotel provides boat to center koh tao two times a day, one at 8 am something one at 1:20pm. we had a swim before we left at around 12 noon, when we finished and were back in the room ready to take off we found that all of our things were outside the room on the floor. we guess the next guests were there, but it did not give the reason for the staff to throw our things out. we really like mango bay but we will not stay there again.

Awsome location, friendly staff”
We had a great stay here. The view and swimming are impressive and the staff is super nice. The beach can get a bit crowded from aroun 9-4, when boats from other parts of the island swarm the area for diving and snokling but the mornings and evenings are peaceful and calm. The food is medicore as has been referenced in other reviews, we had mostly decent/good meals with one terible one, but the view and overall experience far outweighed this. Well worth the effort to get there and put up with the food for a couple nights. The boat/shuttle provided by the hotel as referenced on their website is a little hard to find, they actually have a small office in Mae Haad, on a side street a little south east of the main pier, which is where you meet before loading on the shuttle boat.

Good hotel and nice staff”
The hotel is fantastic. The resort is in a remote bay clinging onto the side of the cliff with stunning views and fantastic diving. The rooms are clean but very basic. The downside is there is no mobile phone signal. No Internet even though it is advertised and the the power is only turned on in the evening. There are no shops and the town is thirty mins away by boat.

calm and tranquil”
It's such a great place for sanctuary. Service-minded staffs esp. at the restaurant. A little difficult to get there and to get to other places in Koh Tao during the visit cuz the boat service to Mae had and Nang yuan only twice a day. But if you're fed up with hustle and crowds, this is the place you're looking for.

Come for the snorkelling, not the resort.”
I didn't have a positive experience staying at Ao Muong Beach Resort. The hotel ferry wasn't scheduled to depart until 1.5 hrs after our arrival so we payed a private boat to ferry us to the resort. The staff were very aloof and not helpful in any way shape or form. They were continuously low on food and drink supplies, at one time running out of all forms of hydrating drink for almost half a day! On the plus side, the bungalow itself was descent, as the view was nice and the bed was comfortable. Mango Bay was a wonderful place to snorkel and relax!

Nice people, wonderful service”
No cellphone signal, a little bit inconvinent to get there. Taxi boat took about 800B. The people there are very nice. Free transfer to Koh nanyuan and mae head pier. Free small boat to play. Wonderful place for snorkelling. The only restuarant is a bit expensive, and does not has many choices. Out of electricity from 6 a.m to 6 p.m Highly recommend you to stay for two nights! Very good one.
