Nightlife is outrageous - if you like party, you must go!

The major attracting is the kayak and tube rafting which is about 5KM long. However there are river bars along the route so take your time. If you visit the blue lagoon (approx 15km away) you can either go jump in the pond or climb up to the cave however prepare a face mask during dry weather as the route can get very dusty because you'll be travelling on red soil. If it had rain earlier in the day, be prepared for a rough ride as the road will be very muddy.

Also a good place to come with a group of friends to create own atmosphere as there is not much to do.

I did the tubing and it was fun! There was a variety of ages (some 50+) but mostly youngish folk. You can definitely still do the tubing and not go to any bars and it would still be a good experience! But I think most people did a kayaking trip instead of tubing! I also went out on a scooter to the blue lagoon and cave - which is a hard drive in wet season - don't drive if you are not experienced but I think in dry season it would be fine for beginner drivers (just watch the pot holes). Blue lagoon is very touristy but still a nice cool dip and the cave is quite cool. I think on the way out to the blue lagoon there are multiple other caves/lagoon you can go to - I didn't have the time but I heard good things about these. Both nights I ended up at the Irish bar - which was great! I also ate one night one the street (a burger and a pancake - both yum - good for a budget traveler) and one night at the thai-german guys place and had an amazing schnitzel and fresh raedler beer. I would definitely recommend it here, even for families!

There are plenty of restaurant that serve western dishes and cheap beer. Plenty of guest house. A place where you can make friends easily. Very close to nature. With great scenery for relaxation.

My girlfriend and I went tubing and saw some caves and went to the blue lagoon. The caves were amazing and huge, the blue lagoon is a great place to relax, swim and dive into the water. Now in Luang Prabang I do miss the lively atmosphere of Vang Vieng a little. The bars are very relaxed there and helpful.

The locals call the party kids Zombies because of the under dressed girls and the gap year Brits. 20-30 deaths a years due to drugs and drinking. kids don't send yourself home in a body bag. Your parents deserve more. Enjoy the sights. Be polite and represent your country.

This is a once-small town struggling to grow with the tourist boom. Lack of modernity and infrastructure everywhere in Laos is a given, as travelers we are all part of the struggle. Enjoying Vang Vieng is more about management expectations and being open to discovering the hidden layers inside this very beautiful spot and the truly getting to know the locals. There are always a few scammers, just like NYC. And yet, you will find warm, friendly Lao people are everywhere you turn. Just don't expect travel advice from someone making banana pancakes for a buck and change. Chok Dee deu.

Regardless, there are more things to do than tubing. While there, my group did a climb up Red Mountain which was rather interesting.

Several great places to eat, many places to shop for small gifts or pick up small items you forgot to bring with you. Many places in area that can arrange places to go for single day trips, or 1-2 day trips. Great organic farm just outside of town.

Tubing and paddle boating available. Many tours to book to go to sightsee in several local places. All around this village you will find beautiful scenery, you can't go wrong when taking a day trip somewhere. I would suggest the Blue Lagoon for swimming is a must do. Also a nice trip down the Nam Song river in a tube, or up and back by boat tour.

they only reason to go there is the wonderful views....... thailand, cambodia and vietnam offer much more for less

You can book onward travel plans at several places so shop around for best price before buying. Many restaurants and food vendors in all areas. Tubing on the river or a boat trip on the river are very enjoyable. If you have transportation and directions, it is well worth the trip to drive to the Blue Lagoon, research it first. There is also a nice park with a huge cave to explore.

Can rent motobike or bicycles from several different places in the town. Many restaurants scattered along each street. Many street vendors and shops in the city centre.

always nice to end the day with a good coffee or a street side crepe of fresh banana and honey. can walk to most of the town but need a tuk tuk to the waterholes and falls. nice place to sit on the river at a hotel and enjoy dinner

Food wise, Whopping Burger is one of the better options, shopping - it's a good place to get water proof gear for phones and bags, best not to do anything that will land you in the provincial hospital, for minor injuries head to Vientiane and go to either the French Clinic or the Australian Embassy Clinic.

only sad experience, I saw one accident which one man died, not nice experience.

The area near Elephant Crossing hotel is a little overpriced. Wifi is provided at almost every restaurant so don't worry about having to disconnect from the internet. You don't need internet here anyway.

I personally love this town but it is definitely not for everyone.

This was our second visit here in the last 6 months and we will be back again!!
