Find Hotels in Chiang Dao, Thailand

We were most impressed with Azalea (in fact, we have already stayed 2 other times since this first visit!). Places to stay in Chiang Dao can be very limited, especially when you are looking for a place with great facilities and charm. Well, Azalea delivered on both fronts. The pool is absolutely lovely and, while we didn't make use of the hot spring 'bath' , we had a peek at the facilities and they were fantastic. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet and the staff were ABSOLUTELY lovely. The food was Thai style only, but of a high quality and the location was very convenient despite the fact that it looks kind of removed from everything on a map. As a bonus, tere is actually a wonderful massage place just up the road too (the only one in town these days, I think!)

Set out your expectations: I read some comments and they were not reflected what the resort was made for. Beside the astonishing beauty of the nature in Chiang Dao, this resort located in a great nature spot with a very nice internal decoration, garden, self-growing fruits and vegetables. The resort was open, clean, easily access as it was on the main road. The room was spacious, clean, and silent plus those comfortable beds and pillows. Staying in this resort was one of my phenomenal experience as I was surprised by the owner's kindness and many more. His story of retirement was very inspiring to young people like us to pursue a better quality of life. I appreciated him and his daughter's kindness and assistance through out our stay and before that. I did more review of this resort on my IG and recommended to some of my good friends. I will surely return if I visit Chaing Doa again. Sis Somo and uncle, I hope you guys are doing well and read this. Thanks for your accommodations.

1. Buraphat resort is newer resort compared the other resorts in Chiang dao. I booked one room for 4 persons. The room is good, spacious and beds are comfortable but it's quite troublesome when we want to take shower cos the bathroom is downstairs. 2. The pool is quite small and the water not clean, looks milky, when we swam we couldn't see anything. Not much facilities, just swimming pool, garden and small yard for playing ball or badminton. 3. The location deep inside from the main road and very small street ( only for one car). In the evening or night is very dark. 4. Resort surrounding not so big, a bit far from the mountain view. 5. They fixed the pool when still have customer so my children a bit disappointed because actually they really want to swim. 6. House keeping didn't clean my room until I was back in the night but luckily the staffs very helpful and they clean my room immediately.

We enjoyed our stay at Chiang Dao Hut. The ladies who run the place are very friendly. It is possible to rent motorbikes and bicyles (300 and 100 THB/day). The bungalows are quite basic, but there is hot water for the shower. During our stay at the beginning of February it got very cold at night. So be prepared! But during the day it gets hot as well. The food was very good. Chiang Dao Hut is very close to the caves (walking distance) as well as Wat Tham Pha Plong, which is situated picturesque at a hill nearby. Before you enter the grounds of Wat Tham Pha Plong there is a sign indicating the Chiang Dao Nature Trail (on the left side of the road). The path leads through the jungle on very small path. There is one fork in the path. If you go left you end up at the Chinag Dao Cave. It takes about 2 hours and is totally worth it. We didn't meet a single person.

Go to The Wes Village in Chiang Dao - we just cannot recommend it enough. First of all, the location is spectacular, right there with a beautiful view of the Doi Luang - the 3rd highest mountain in Thailand - and lush fields and orchards. The suite rooms we stayed in are beautifully designed and spacious and luxurious. The owner Natekittiya is a lovely hospitable person who went out of her way and accepted all our requests including taking us ceramic shopping, helping us plan our itinerary for the surrounding areas, and most of all, teaching us the secrets of her amazing Thai cooking. If you're interested in good food, just Natekittiya's cooking should be enough for you to go and stay at The Wes Village. For any foodie, this would be the highlight of the trip - it definitely was for us. She sets a mean table with just the most spectacular food, presented in the most stunning way. And we were lucky - she agreed to teach us several dishes over the 2 days we were there. GO!!!!

If you have a car, getting here is super easy, and it's close enough to Chiang Dao caves. the grounds are really nice, really forested and well taken care of, with a stream running through, and some ponds. Some of the staff speak decent English as well. We got a free upgrade to a room that overlooked a nice pond. The massage I got here was excellent. Well worth the money. I was thoroughly impressed. The food was mediocre so I'd advise eating meals elswhere. We had some friends visit our bathroom at night - a trail of large ants and a lizzard. I didn't mind this - after all, we are in the middle of nature, and it's happened to me before at another hotel in Thailand, but some people might have minded. Overall I'd stay here again if I find myself in Chiang Dao.

The hotel is one of the oldest in Chiang Dao. It has great potential, but is quite rundown at the moment. It is most (in)famously known to the locals for its bars which offer (live) music, ballrooms and cheap boos. At a result, extremely stoned people are easily seen on the property. It was bestowed upon by members of the royal family many years ago, and the owners are believed to be well connected to local authorities. Hence, many of the drunk on the property are those who would show no hesitation to use their authority, maybe more so when they are stoned. Big warning for anyone who does not want to be involved in local disputes.

I'll get my beef out of the way first, Chiang Dao is not a cheap place to overnight in! That said, Huan Chiang Dao Resort is comfortable and quiet, has very friendly staff, a lovely garden setting and the best Kao Thom for breakfast for hundreds of kilometres in any direction! The rooms are adequately sized and the bed firm which is standard in Thailand. You park at the front and walk through the garden to your room, which will be half a bungalow building, so it may be quite a hike depending on your room, and your luggage! It's also a bit of a problem if you're returning late from dinner out, too! Cheaper alternatives in Chiang Dao really aren't a consideration, this is nice, but it's just a bit hard to justify the tariff for what's on offer.

Dreamhome is exactly that. A truly wonderful place to stay when visiting Chiang Dao. Everything you want to see in Chiang Dao is within easy reach. Oy the owner and her son were wonderfully helpful in every way. Room was big and comfortable with a heavy quilt for those cold Winter nights in Chiang Dao. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately maintained. My only complaint was the Internet. It was a working vacation for me but the Internet was too unstable. In the realm of things this was only a minor inconvenience. Everything else was fantastic.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Service: the proprietor made our short stay in Chiang Dao better than we could have hoped. We didn't have a car or any plans so he spent the afternoon taking us to a few lovely spots to see - the cave, the temple, and a beautiful restaurant called Chiang Dao Good View. We were there to climb the mountain and he helped us arrange all of it, plus provided transportation. His service was exceptional. Privacy: the hotel is in the middle of a valley and there are only a few cottages to rent. We were the only guests and so it lived up to its name. Ambience: the rustic, cozy atmosphere is exactly what we were looking for. It's a simple cottage with a comfortable bed, small balcony, and mosquito net which only improves the ambience. The bathroom has modern fixtures. Because it's in a valley, we could see the sunset from our window and the sunrise from our balcony. It was perfect. If we're ever back in Chiang Dao, I wouldn't even look anywhere else.

This is located on the same road with several Chiang Dao resorts at the foot of the Chiang Dao mountain and right down the street from the entrance to the cave. We thoroughly enjoyed the setting there. They have several bungalows that are well appointed with nice decor, bathroom, aircon and internet. Good bed and good hot shower. Their new restaurant serves a really nice American Breakfast set, with many choices. They also serve other meals, but we ate elsewhere. The staff are very friendly and speak English. From this resort you do have views of the mountain and also the ridge behind. They also have nice gardens with large trees, flowers, vegetables -- and geese! Several other resorts are within quick walking distance (Nest 2 and Chiang Dao Hut are right across the street), meaning that you have many choices for meals. We walked, hiked, lounged, ate. We would definitely recommend the area in general, and At Home Resort in specific!

We really wanted to like this place: the owner seemed very friendly, the bungalows are nice and the view on the rice fields is amazing. But we had our first dinner at their restaurant and I became sick. I spent the whole night and the following day in bed. Food poisoning, it could happen anywhere after all. The following morning, we were supposed to have our breakfast at 8.30am, and we waiting at the empty restaurant for 30mn. The owner arrived at 9am, apologised, and prepared us a small breakfast. There was also a leak in the toilets that wet our bums each time we were going to the loo. And most of all: we decided to leave earlier as I was too sick to do anything. As we had booked 2 nights, we said we would pay it anyway. We received the bill and were shocked: the price for our dinner + one breakfast was 500 baths. And we had small portions. We thought that was unfair: as the place is isolated, you cannot go anywhere else unless you rent a motorbike (300 baths per day), so you have to pay for a dinner and a breakfast. Generally speaking, we felt Chiang Dao was very expensive, compared to Chiang Mai. Be prepared.

When I booked this resort, I didn't look closely enough at the location. I wanted to be near the Chiang Dao NP and this is 30km away. My fault entirely but worth bearing in mind. It is on the outskirts of a small village called Ban Na. There are a few small shops but little else. There are four bungalows and a house which the owner lives in. It is very new and each bungalow is beautifully decorated with a lovely bathroom and big comfortable double bed. There is no air conditioning, but the big fan was quiet and adequate during our stay. The nights were cool. Each bungalow has a balcony and the view is over open countryside and is very quiet a night. There was water provided, a new flatscreen TV with thai channels and a wardrobe although it had no shelving. There was no room safe. Each bungalow is up two flights of steps from the car parking space and I didn't see any wheelchair access, but wasn't paying that much attention. We were met by a single member of staff who showed us to the bungalow without any fuss. The manager/owner who spoke english arrived in the evening to greet us. Both staff were friendly. In the morning there was a freshly cooked breakfast, tea, coffee and toast which was fine. We ate in the evening in Chiang Dao which was a 40 minute drive away, but there is food available at the resort. Our days were spent in Chian Dao NP, birdwatching and sightseeing. owever, it was a long drive each morning and night and really made early morning walks an impossibilty. As I've said, that was an oversight on my part when booking the Baan Famui. If early starts aren't a problem, you have a car and you want a stopover at a clean and comfortable resort, then this place is fine. Just remember that is is a long way from anywhere.
