Fantastic building, service not great”
Booked an exec double which i thought was in main building. When we checked in it was in outer building and was extremely dark. When i opened the window all i could see was trees completely covering the window and stopping any light. When i enquired what room it was i was told it was a classic so i explained I'd booked the exec and was told there was none available and that the system just allocates a room. What is the point of paying extra for a room choice?! Was offered free breakfast and then tried to throw in a drink at the pool bar. Then offered a free dinner. All of which i didn't want. Eventually i got my room but was then late to get ready for the wedding i was attending at the hotel. I'm not convinced the next room was an exec either but it was slightly brighter. The bar staff were almost non existent, disappeared 15 mins before closing and didn't check if we'd like a drink first. Pool area was lovely, pool bar expensive. Could be so much better. Food at the wedding lovely

Like staying in a work of art”
First, I want to emphasize that if you're looking for perfection in a hotel, this isn't it. The building is a 16th C villa, sympathetically restored & converted to a hotel. There were many laws that got in the way & so it's quirky & not always quite what one might expect from a 4* hotel. It's just outside Frascati. You take the free shuttle to the station & then the train to Rome, an hour in all. So, if you're only interested in seeing Rome, this may not be the place for you. However, staying in what is essentially a work of art in itself, for us, more than made up for the above. Sitting in one of the huge lounges on Xmas morning, drinking coffee & reading... every now & again you look around, still can't quite believe where you are & settle further into the comfortable settee. There are views over Roma - from our room you could just make out St Peter's, even though it's the other side of the Tevere. Some of the sunsets, as Rome's lights came on, were stunning. The restaurant: A rather limited menu but what's there is well-chosen and superb. Even the cheapest wines on the list were very good (a red Frascati!). Service is excellent & sensitive - friendly or not, as you wish. Breakfast is good & abundant. Not outstanding but more than adequate &, given the place, good value for money. A 20m stroll gets you to old Frascati - worth a wander & check out the market you'll pass on the way, especially cheese & salumi! In the centre of Frascati, for some real "local colour", seek out the Osteria Grappolo D'Oro. Order the porchetta. Lastly, the staff: helpful to a turn, mostly very efficient (in winter when there are very few guests, staffing is reduced & so efficiency goes down a little. Given the winter rates, this is not a criticism, just a heads-up). Our thanks to the staff, from the Direttore down, for making our stay a very pleasant one. Quirky, wonderful, imperfect, a bit magical. We will be returning.

Breathtakingly beautiful”
I booked this as a surprise for my boyfriends 30th. Having been blown away by the photos I was initially skeptical that I could stay for such a small price. When I arrived I really wasn't disappointed, first class customer service, they recommended a wonderful restaurant on our first night and even gave us free prosecco on our last night when we ate there. Rome can be an expensive place to eat, with a lot of plaques adding on large service charges so it really helped that the hotel was relatively cheap to stay at so we could really enjoy our experiences. It really is as beautiful as it is in the pictures. I have had the good fortune of staying in many hotels all over the world and this one really stood out and it is the first time I have actually felt compelled to write a review to urge others to go. Wonderful waitor and receptionist service, incredible views. Just stunning, away from the hustle and bustle of Rome but free transfers into town until 10.25. Beautiful, just wonderful experiences had here.

Villa Grazioli is one of the great finds in Europe. The value is fabulous and to be staying at such a historic place is a wonderful experience. We will return on our next trip to Rome...

Family wedding-it felt like we were at a picturesque spa but with fabulous food!”
We were at this hotel 1.9.18-5.9.1.8 for a family wedding with elderly grandparents, middle aged couples, 18-26 years olds and approx. 15 children under the age of 10. The hotel surroundings were peaceful and beautiful it felt like we were at a peaceful retreat but with wonderful service and food! The pool was a little on the chilly side, I am sure it would be refreshing on really hot days. The pool bar had a menu of minimal choices but still suited all age groups. This hotel is absolutely stunning inside and has fantastic terrace views at various points around the hotel. The garden room that we had (73) was ground floor opening out on to the gardens via French windows was so peaceful and had everything we required - although it seems European countries don't always provided an in room tea coffee facility. Large room, very comfy bed, excellent daily maid service lovely en-suite. Even the mini bar wasn't over priced! Only one complaint - Mosquito's but that's Italy I guess.

4 stars for location, park and the arts. 3 stars for room equipment and cleanliness. We were aware that our apartment wouldn't be in the Villa but in the dependance and it was ok. We received a free upgrade from Standard to Classic room. The mattress is to renew, was too soft. Rest very fine, we didn't opt for breakfast.

Second time here & would return again & again. ”
Beautiful hotel. Shuttle bus drivers and cleaning staff very friendly. Reception staff could be a little "warmer". Very "officious" at times and not particularly welcoming. Would be good to have a kettle, teas/coffee etc in rooms. Shuttle bus great (albeit a bit rattly) but not very flexible. Only seems to run to fit in with trains - we wanted to go into Frascati town and no train was due. So we walked (about 15-20 mins; all downhill!). Ate in restaurant - food fantastic. Not cheap but worth every penny. (Asparagus soup with poached egg & king prawns particularly good). Flew into Ciampino - simple short journey to hotel. Overall (another) fantastic stay. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return.

A trip down memory lane”
I knew this villa in 1970-72 when it was a derelict building and I spent time there playing with the children I looked after. To revisit, in actual fact to stay, was a privilege. It bought back so many memories.

Excellent value, but not 4 stars”
There's nothing wrong with the hotel. It's an historic building, in a good location, with attentive staff (although there aren't many of them), and is very good value for money. But it's not really a 4 star hotel. One of its big selling points is views of Rome from the swimming pool and when having dinner outside during the summer months. At one time it probably was possible to find views of Rome from the pool, but the trees now block that view. And although we stayed for four nights they weren't serving dinner outside on any of those nights - apparently due to the weather, but it only rained during the morning on two of the days we were there. The rooms are also a bit dates (we stayed in a deluxe room with a view of Rome, but it doesn't look like it's been refurbished since the hotel opened 25yrs ago).

Good”
Lovely location as Frascati was a really beautiful and welcoming town. Little disappointed by the hotel however. Spotlessly clean but as our room was not in the main house we felt removed from the place and barely spoke to a member of staff the 4 days we were there. We were on honeymoon and were not wowed in the same way by the hotel as we were by the photographs on the website.
