Why staying in Mukdahan? Because you have just arrived from Laos and on the next day, you take the bus to Bangkok. So where to spend the night? Close to the bus station so that you don't have to carry your heavy luggage, at a place that is valuable for money, comfortable, clean and run by a friendly staff. And so is the Submukda hotel.

The room is spacious, the staff are excellent and friendly even though we could not understand a word we were saying to each other. The shower has a foot rest, the TV has English speaking movies, air-con good. Nice little restaurant across the main road (Only open for lunch). It is right at the bus station with a lot of street food. The hotel has a variety of 7/11 type food and a micro wave for heating. Free coffee down stairs in the morning. There is a big shopping complex about 500 metres to the north. Great value hotel, but a kettle in the room would be nice.

Great for an overnight stay”
I've stayed here three times over the past 6 years. Although the rooms are a little old, they're spacious and spotlessly clean. Staff are extremely helpful and being right next to the bus station it's convenient if you get a red eye. It's a long way from the Friendship bridge but a metered taxi is only 90B so it's no issue. Brand new seven 11 across the road as well as a couple of Thai noodle shops.

Little gem”
Everything is fine with Submukda Phoom Place. The only problem I had was the Fridge freezer didn't work so I couldn't make ice for my Scotch. I didn't mention it to the staff so no problem. love the fact the TV has a English speaking movie channel, channel 10. Continues movies, no commercials, just goes from one movie to the next and most are 2019. Air-con is great, Lotus shopping complex just down the road. This hotel is real value.

Cheap and next to bus station, easy for Mukdahan to Savannakhet bus. Old and mattress/pillows not brilliant. Front desk staff helpful. Double booked by my mistake and let me cancel.

Quiet and relaxing”
The hotel has the advantage of being a minute's walk from the bus station (come out of the bus station entrance and you'll see it to your left, no need for tuk-tuks). A fair way from town (and then a tuk-tuk will be handy) but there are very good eats and a night food court 800 metres away, just go out to the main road, walk up the hill to the first set of lights, turn right and you can't miss it.

Only issue was nothing open at 10PM in the area - no 7-11 or such close. About 1KM away near Makro are many options, but hard to find tuk-tuk in the hotel-area at night. Kind staff offered to provide a ride. Food-delivery (pizza and KFC) are available. I would suggest the hotel add more 7-11 type items for purchase.

So close to the bus station”
Visa runners hopping over to Savannakhet, Laos would find this hotel very handy as it is only a one minute walk from the bus station (coming out of the main entrance the hotel is the creamy coloured building to your left) where international buses to Laos leave in the morning and frequent buses and mini vans to Khon Kaen, Ubon and Bangkok. The hotel room is showing a bit of wear and tear but it's comfortable and quiet enough. The town centre is a fair way from the hotel but there are very good night food stalls and a 7/11, a seven or eight minute walk from the hotel (head south and walk up the hill and turn right at the first set of lights).

Bathroom smelled like sulfur”
The bathroom was just generally old and gross. And it had a strong odor of sulfur. I was afraid it may affect my breathing while sleeping. Its fine for sleeping one night at a cheap price but it's not very comfortable or clean.
